Notes and Reactions...

  • 12 Years a Slave earned seven nominations, but Nebraska was right behind with six nominations. Both films should pick up at least a few Oscar nods as well.
  • All is Lost earned four nods, while Blue Jasmine, Fruitvale Station, and
  • Inside Llewyn Davis each earned three.
  • David Lowery picked up two nominations in two different categories for two different films, Upstream Color and Pit Stop
  • There were not a lot of surprises here, so there's not a lot of reactions.
  • Frances Ha earned a nomination for Best Picture, but not for its director, screenwriter, star, etc. It did earn a second nomination for Best Editing, but usually Best Picture contenders earn more nominations than this and in the higher prestige categories.
  • James Gandolfini might be a sentimental favorite for his posthumous work in Enough Said, but that category is unusually competitive this year. (There were six nominations given out.)
