2014 Awards Season: PGA Produces a Rare Tie

January 20, 2014

Producers Guild of America handed out their awards last night and while there were no real upsets, there was certainly a surprise for the top prize.

The categories and winners are...

THEATRICAL MOTION PICTURE

ANIMATED THEATRICAL MOTION PICTURE

DOCUMENTARY THEATRICAL MOTION PICTURE

Notes and Reactions...

  • There was a tie between 12 Years a Slave and Gravity. 12 Years a Slave was widely regarded as the favorite, while Gravity did earn some of the best reviews of the year, so if either film had won, it won't have been a huge shock. However, ties are so rare that when they happen, they are always the big news story.
  • Frozen won, which makes it the Oscar favorite. Although I still think The Wind Rises has a real chance.
  • We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks was the favorite to win, and it did.
