2014 Awards Season: DGA: Gravity adds Weight to its Oscar Chances
The Directors Guild of America handed out the awards over the weekend, including two for theatrical releases. There were no true upsets, but it didn't go exactly as I anticipated it would go.
The categories and winners are...
OUSTANDING DIRECTORIAL ACHIEVEMENT IN FEATURE FILM
- When the nominations were announced, I thought Steve McQueen would win for 12 Years a Slave, but that I thought Alfonso Cuaron should win for Gravity. I was wrong about the first part, but I can't really call Gravity's win an upset.
- I would have predicted The Act of Killing for Best Documentary, but The Square was right behind, so again, not a true upset.
- On the other hand, I really wanted Sarah Polley to win for Stories We Tell, especially after her Oscar snub.
