Per Theater Chart: Glory to Gloria

January 28, 2014

Gloria

There were not a lot of new releases to do well on the per theater chart this week, but one of them, Gloria, led the way with an average of $19.592 in three theaters. A long-time release, The Great Beauty, returned to the $10,000 club with an average of $13,121 in nine theaters.

There were a few other new limited releases that opened this past weekend, but nearly all of them bombed. Visitors was the lone exception earning $9,094 in one theater. Run and Jump missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,972 in two theaters. Gimme Shelter was the widest limited release of the week playing in nearly 400 theaters, but that didn't help its average, which was a mere $1,922. Mercedes Sosa: The Voice of Latin America was further back with $1,415 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Nebraska's Oscar nominations helped it get to $10 million much faster than expected. At this pace, $15 million is within reach.
  • Philomena earned $25 million early in the weekend and it is on pace to get to $30 million. It is now ahead of 21 and Over and just behind The World's End.
  • August: Osage County got to $20 million before the weekend and $25 million over the weekend. It will get to $30 million this weekend and maybe $40 million by the time it's done. It has now made more than The Host, which opening in more than 3,000 theaters.
