Featured TV on DVD Review: Power Rangers: Megaforce: The Great Dragon Spirit
Power Rangers: Megaforce: The Great Dragon Spirit - Buy from Amazon
The last time I reviewed Power Rangers, it was the second volume of the Megaforce series. I wasn't expecting a lot, because most incarnations in this franchise are pretty weak. However, it was a pleasant surprise. Will The Great Dragon Spirit be as good as the previous installment? Or was it only good because my expectations were so low?
- Prince Takes Knight
After the events of the previous episode, the Power Rangers are struggling to decide if they should let the RoboKnight into their group. Emma and Gia are excited about the possible new member. Jake and Noah are not so sure he would make a good team player. Troy, well Troy is too distracted to be part of the discussion. He's been having dreams about RoboKnight and the Power Rangers in a huge battle. This could be a sign of the future, but what's troubling is, he doesn't know if RoboKnight was fighting with the Power Rangers or against them. At the same time, Vrak summons Psychotick to capture and reprogram RoboKnight to turn him into a force for evil.
- Man and Machine
Bigs, the mutant blob of toxic waste, summon Shadow Serpent, a demon that is not only made of shadows, but can steal shadows leaving the victims frozen in place. The Power Rangers and RoboKnight need to stop him, but the two don't seem able to fight as a team.
- Ultra Power
Gosei sends the Power Rangers on a quest to find a powerful sword, the Wild Sword, which was made ages ago to help protect the Earth. Then, it became so powerful that it couldn't be controlled, so it was buried. Now the power is growing strong enough that it will escape its tomb and who knows what the result will be if that happens. At the same time, Vrak tries to get the sword first and does so by sending Distractor to distract the Power Rangers long enough for him to get it.
- Last Laugh
The Power Rangers have to fight Nojoke, a monster who eats laughter and traps his victims in a magic gourd. Okay, this is strange, even for this show.
There are no extras on the DVD.
Power Rangers Megaforce: The Great Dragon Spirit has the same strengths and weaknesses as the previous release. The acting is better than most other series in the franchise. The action is solid, if repetitive. I do wish there was more humor, but at least there's no bad jokes. If you are a fan of the franchise and have purchased DVDs from the past, than this DVD is also worth adding to your collection.
