Guardians of the Galaxy opened in first place internationally with $67.4 million in 42 markets. This includes a number of major markets, led by Russia with $12.90 million on 2,097 screens and the U.K. with $10.70 million on 554 screens. It also earned first place in Brazil with $5.27 million on 472 screens. It wasn't as strong in South Korea with $3.83 million on 575 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $4.78 million. There was a massive local release in that market, so that partially explains that result. The film also opened in second place in Australia with $2.15 million on 244 screens, but this was just the film's previews.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was pushed to second place with $47.8 million in 70 markets for a total of $261.0 million internationally and $450.32 million worldwide. This includes a $12.61 million opening on 661 screens in France, while it was also tops in Italy with $2.63 million on 624 screens. The film will become the biggest hit of the franchise during the upcoming weekend.

The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom opened in first place in China and third place internationally with an estimated $40.0 million.

The Admiral: Roaring Currents opened in first place in South Korea and third place internationally with $25.76 million on 1,586 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $35.52 million.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 remained in fifth place, again, with $19.9 million in 54 markets for totals of $296.7 million internationally and $465.3 million worldwide. The film earned first place in Spain with $2.71 million on 687 screens.

Transformers: Age of Extinction fell from second to sixth with $19.5 million in 60 markets for totals of $764.4 million internationally and $1.006 billion worldwide. It was the first film released this year to reach $1 billion, which is reason for the studio to be happy.

Continent fell to second place in China and seventh place internationally with $17.0 million over the weekend for a total of $82.5 million after two. It will hit $100 million shortly, which is a milestone that is becoming surprisingly common in the market.

Hercules fell to eighth place with $15.4 million in 35 markets for a total of $57.9 million after two weeks of release. This is already more than the film has earned domestically, plus it has yet to open in most markets. This week it opened in a number of markets, but all of them the smaller variety. It opened in first place in Portugal with $338,000 on 97 screens.

Girl Friends was the third Chinese film on this week's chart with $13 million.

The Purge: Anarchy entered the top ten for the first time during its international run with $8.1 million on 2,936 screens in 35 markets for an early total of $19.3 million. It earned a fourth place debut in Germany with $1.78 million on 323 screens, while it fell to fifth in the U.K. with $1.36 million on 390 screens over the weekend for a total of $5.23 million after two weeks of release.
