The Imitation Game led the way on the per theater chart with an incredible average of $119,838 in four theaters. This is the second best per theater average of the year, behind only The Grand Budapest Hotel. Second place went to The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, with an average of $13,725 during its sophomore stint. The final film in the $10,000 is The Babadook, which earned an average of $10,002 in three theaters.

The rest of the new limited releases were not as good. Touch the Wall struggled with an average of $3,075 in two theaters. Before I Disappear was close behind with $2,676 in one theater. Aftermath missed the Mendoza Line by a large degree with $1,124, also in one theater. Dr. Cabbie opened in way too many theaters, 220 to be exact, and this led to a per theater average of just $540.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Dr. Cabbie opened with nearly $2 million, but its per theater average is so small, it won't get any further.
  • Foxcatcher crossed $1 million during the Thanksgiving holiday and finished the weekend with just over $2 million.
  • Saving Christmas topped $2 million before the weekend, but its per theater average is less than $1,000, so it will likely fall quickly from now on.
  • Whiplash saw its theater count drop over the weekend, but it still got to $3 million. It will get to $4 million shortly and $5 million isn't out of reach.
  • The Theory of Everything had its best weekend of its run so far earning $5 million over the weekend. It has already reached $10 million and there's no saying how much further it will go.
  • Birdman reached $15 million before the weekend and might reach $20 million over the upcoming weekend.
