Limited Releases are doing Incredible Business

November 9, 2004

While it was the overall box office champ, The Incredibles that lead the way on the per theatre charts this week with $17,917, several limited releases are still making noise at the box office. One such movie is Sideways, which managed to stay above the $10,000 per theatre average mark for the third weekend in a row. The film earned more than $1 million over the weekend in just 66 theatres for an average of $15,873.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theatre Charts alumnus:

  • Vera Drake hit $1 million after five weeks of release.
  • Being Julia also made it to $1 million.
  • The Motorcycle Diaries made it all the way to $10 million. It's a rare feat for a limited release to last long enough to reach 8 figures.
  • Which makes the fact that two films did it this week all the more unusual. I Huckabees also made it to $10 million, but it is shedding theatres fast.
