Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Fall season gets under way in earnest this weekend with the release of The Lego Ninjago Movie and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Both films are expected to do well, and at least one of them should beat current box office champ, It this weekend. Ninjago opens in 4,047 theaters, while Golden Circle launches in 4,003. It will remain in 4,007 movie houses, which gives us three films playing in over 4,000 locations this weekend. More...

It

It’ll take a lot for any movie to catch up with It this weekend, and the task won’t be made any easier by the fact that the current box office champ is gaining an extra 45 theaters. Also opening wide this weekend is Home Again, in 2,940 theaters. More...

But one that encapsulates the poor options for theater owners right now is that Cars 3, which is pretty much a dud by Pixar’s standards, and is entering its fourth month in release, will be playing in the most “new” theaters this weekend, as it expands back from 214 to 2,445 locations. When a film that earned $787 per theater last weekend gets that kind of expansion, you know things are really bad. More...
