Limited and VOD Releases: Lovers of Limited Releases

May 5th, 2017

Chuck

It is one of those weeks where it is hard to find a film with high box office potential. Last Men in Aleppo is the best movie, but as a documentary, it likely won’t expand significantly. Chuck has a great cast, but it’s reviews are merely good. Maybe The Lovers will do the best. More...

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Cheap Thrills

June 14th, 2014

Cheap Thrills came out in theaters and on Video on Demand in March and it did well during its opening weekend, but its legs were really short. Normally this would suggest poor word-of-mouth, but the reviews were excellent. Then again, it is a black comedy, which is a hard genre to market. Now that it is out on the home market, will it perform better? More...

Limited Releases: Thrilling or Just Cheap?

March 21st, 2014

Cheap Thrills poster

There are quite a few limited releases this week, including Nymphomaniac: Volume 1, which is earning the loudest buzz. Hopefully both films will find an audience this weekend, but limited release is a rough go even with the best reviews. More...

Featured DVD / Blu-ray Review: Compliance

However, after that it really struggled and quickly disappeared from theaters. Is it the type of film that will please critics, but not the average moviegoer? Or does it deserve a wider audience? 2012 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part III

December 15th, 2012

We are getting closer and closer to Christmas and we are getting to the crunch time for gift shopping. After checking out first run releases and franchise box sets in Part I and TV on DVD releases in Part II, this week we look at limited releases, classics, and foreign films. Some are pretty obvious choices, as we had a few limited releases that broke into the mainstream during their theatrical releases, but there are also a few more films that slipped beneath the radar the last time around. The biggest of these is... More...
