November 2nd, 2023

After a stellar weekend at the box office that saw Five Nights at Freddy’s topple a 12-year-old Halloween weekend record, the film adds 114 locations this week. Now it’s available in 3,789 cinemas throughout North America, the horror feature becomes the widest release in the land. Theater counts: The Eras Tour holds off Five Nights at Freddy’s to remain widest release

TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR

Despite dropping 82 locations this week, TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR will remain the widest release for the third consecutive week, still available in a 3,773 theaters, outpacing a bevy of newcomers, including the supernatural horror, Five Nights at Freddy’s as it makes its way into theaters. Featured TV on DVD Review: Californication: Season Seven

August 2nd, 2014

The last time I reviewed Californication was back in season three. By then I had grown to hate the main character, Hank Moody, so I skipped the other seasons as they arrived. This week the final season hits the home market, so I figured I would try the show one last time. Did it improve in the following years? Or should readers expect to see the DVD on an upcoming contest? More...

2013 Preview: March

March 1st, 2013

February is over, and for the most part, we should be very happy it is done and buried. The biggest hit of the month turned out to be Identity Thief, which will cross $100 million shortly. There were also a couple of impressive midlevel hits, like Warm Bodies and Escape from Planet Earth, but for the most part, it was miss after miss. This is bad news for March, which is not only dealing with a slumping 2013 box office, but will be compared with a strong March of 2012. Last March started with The Lorax, which earned more than $200 million. There's a good chance no March release this year will reach this milestone. Last March was also the month The Hunger Games opened, which earned more than $400 million. There's a chance the top three films opening this month won't earn that much combined. 2013 is going to take a beating in the year-over-year comparison and it is already $100 million behind last year's pace. DVD and Blu-ray Releases for December 18th, 2012

December 16th, 2012

It's the last week before Christmas, which means it is the last chance for last minute gifts. There are a number of first-run releases coming out this week, some of which are not coming out till Friday, or even next Monday. There are also quite a few limited releases and TV on DVD releases hitting the home market this week. However, none of these were big hits and very few earned strong praise from critics. That doesn't mean there are none that are worth picking up. In fact, we have a trio of contenders for Pick of the Week. Shameless: The Complete Second Season on DVD or Blu-ray; Pitch Perfect on DVD or Blu-ray Combo Pack; and Arbitrage on DVD or Blu-ray. It was a close call, but in the end I went with Arbitrage. Also coming out this week is Rush: 2012 - CD and Blu-ray in a Deluxe Edition or Super Deluxe Edition, which is a clear winner of Puck of the Week. More...
