Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

March 29th, 2020

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker closes off the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars franchise. The film missed expectations, both critically and commercially. That said, it was still a $1 billion hit worldwide, so it was massively profitable. Is the film a fun way to end the sequel trilogy, despite the critical reception? Or was it a major misstep like many called it? More...

2019 Preview: December

December 1st, 2019

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Frozen II wasn’t the only box office hit to debut in November, but it was by far the largest. It helped save November and kept 2019 from turning completely sour at the last minute. As for December, we have several potential $100 million hits, plus a couple of monster hits. There are some who think Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the biggest domestic hit released in 2019, but most think it will have to settle for second place. Jumanji: The Next Level should also be a monster hit, even if it doesn’t come really close to its predecessor. As for last December, Aquaman was the undisputed champion, earning almost as much as the next two films combined. Jumanji could top Aquaman at the box office, while we could also have more $100 million films than we had last year. Add in Star Wars and the year should end on a really positive note, making up for the extended slumps we had to deal with through a lot of the year. 2019 won’t be able to close the gap entirely, but it will do enough that we will be able to celebrate. Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Solo: A Star Wars Story

September 25th, 2018

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo was the third Star Wars film to come out in approximately 18 months. It also had serious behind-the-scenes issues that resulted in $100 millions worth of reshoots, according to some reports. It missed expectations, both at the box office and with critics. Is it the weakest installment in the Disney era? If so, is it still worth checking out? More...

2018 Preview: May

May 1st, 2018

Solo: A Star Wars Story

April was all about Avengers: Infinity War, which earned about as much during its opening weekend as the next two biggest films, A Quiet Place and Rampage, will earn in total. However, moving Infinity War to April has left a big gap for the first two weeks of May. It isn’t until Deadpool 2 debuts that we have a potential $100 million movie, while the week after Solo: A Star Wars Story closes the month on a strong note. Fortunately, both of those films are expected to earn more than $100 million during their opening weekends alone and combined could earn over $700 million domestically. Last May, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 helped the month get off to a fast start, but it was the only monster hit of the month. Infinity War opening a week early will mean the month will start slower, in terms of new releases, but Infinity War’s record-breaking debut should help 2018 come out ahead in the end. More...

Featured Blu-ray and DVD Review: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

March 26th, 2018

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the biggest box office hit of 2016, both domestically and worldwide. It also earned 91% positive reviews and a solid A from CinemaScore. It is also hated by a minority of very loud, very aggressive people. Are the majority right? Do the minority have a legitimate case to make? More...
