Movie Website Updates for July 1 - July 7

July 7, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner, Murderball - Official Site.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin
About a dozen more photos were added to the image gallery.

2046
There's a new site for the film's domestic release, and while it has some style with the kaleidoscope intros, it's doesn't stand out as well as the original site.

Bad News Bears
A couple of features were added to the games section, including one that wasn't even marked coming soon last week. In the first game you have to help Buttermaker make it around the bases without falling down, and the second is a soundboard with quotes from the movie.

Beautiful Country
Simple site with just the basic features, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer) but not enough style to make it stand out.

The Brothers Grimm
A Miramax site that doesn't suck? Unbelievably. Granted, there's not much here at the moment, just the news section and the posters, but there's a lot of potential.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Cast and crew bios were added to the site, as was the second game, Fudge Frenzy. The game moved too slow for my taste.

Cronicas
No real changes in a couple of weeks.

Cry Wolf
The full trailer is up, and it's certainly better than the teaser trailer. Much less text to read, much better description of the setup. Hell, I'm just glad I didn't hear that, "Doodeloo" sound a dozen times. It's one of my least favorite sounds, almost as bad as the, "Waa, waa, waa!" of a digital alarm clock. The film looks like your typical Teenage Slasher Flick with a halfway interesting hook and should easily make a profit.

Dark Water
At first glance, this looked like it was going to be a really cool site exploring the building. But it was less interactive and too linear to reach its full potential. It is better than most sites at setting a mood, but not great like it could have been.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Small site with just the synopsis, image gallery, and some clippings that give further background information. The site is well done and there's certainly some potential here.

Fantastic Four
The film opens tomorrow but there's still a few features marked coming soon, also, the Baxter house still doesn't work for me. It is early in the day, so I'll give the film one last check before uploading the story.

Find Me Guilty
Just the poster so far.

A History of Violence
A request for questions is up, plus the site as a slightly different look.

Hustle and Flow
The master tape section was added to the site and it's fun to play with.

Initial D
The film was shot in Japan, and I can only assume the server is there as well. The load times are taking forever. There's a lot to look at here, but wow, the load times are going to test your patience. Hopefully when the gets a North American release date they'll have a server that's closer and faster.

The Island
Yet another section was added to the site, Perspectives. This section gives more background information and does make the film seem more intriguing.

Magnificent Desolution: Walking on the Moon 3D
Just a teaser site so far with practically no content.

The Man
The flash site is active, and it has a good hook with the cell phone. You can make or receive calls in either case you hear clips from the movie. Even phone wrong numbers will get you a few different clips. The rest of the site has the usual features but nothing else too special.

Murderball
Not your typical, subdued documentary site. The site has the usual features, synopsis, filmmaker bios, trailer, etc. as well as blurbs from more than a dozen reviews and release dates. Of course there's plenty of information on the subject including rules for Murderball, or as it is now known Wheelchair Rugby, (I like the old name better, but I understand why they changed it.) The site also has a look at the special wheelchairs used and some of the players and each player not only has a bio, but a video clip as well. This site does an excellent job at selling the film, which is the most important job and is the winner of the eradicating Weekly Website Award.

MirrorMask
It has been a long time since this site has been updated, but the cast bios were finally added.

The New World
The full trailer was added to the site, as were more behind the scenes photos.

Saraband
No changes since the site first launched.

Sky High
A couple of games were added to the classroom section and there are audio clips for each of the character bios.

Steve + Sky
The site also all the usual features but with an unpolished feel.
