Movie Website Updates for March 24 - March 30

March 30, 2006

Another week with less sites than I would have liked. (On a side note, it seems every time something weird happens it happens on a Thursday. This time its slight internet connection problems / memory leak. I think. Whatever it is, it's causing my computer to act really slowly.) This shorter list doesn't mean there isn't an award-worthy site and the best of the best is Over the Hedge - Official Site.

Adam and Steve - Official Site
All the regular features are here, plus extras in the form of a few clips. It's a good site, just not one that's up to the level of an award-winning site.

American Dreamz - Official Site
There's a website for the titular < HREF=https://www.voteamericandreamz.com/ target="_NewWindow" rel="nofollow">TV show from the movie, but I'm not sure if this is a side site, or the full site. Hopefully it is just a side site. It does contain some background information like character bios.

Awesome; I F***in' Shot That - Official Site
Has all the usual features one would expect from a movie like this, but it left me cold.

Basic Instinct 2 - Official Site
Thoroughly mediocre

The Break-Up - Official Site
A photo gallery was added to the site with nearly 3 pictures. There is more than two full months till the movie opens, so the lack of content isn't unexpected, but adding a photo gallery with just two pictures seems almost insulting and worse than no update at all.

Brick - Official Site
Just in time for tomorrow's opening, two clips were added to the site and they do a great job at selling the film. (Well, the first one anyway, I'm not so sure about the second.) This leaves just the interviews marked coming soon, but it is very early in the day and I will check back just before uploading the column to see if they are there. ... Nope.

Cars - Official Site
Doc Hudson is now in the showroom.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
Two clips were added this week for a total of 83 billion, or so. It would probably take longer to download and watch every clip on this site than it would to watch every Kevin Smith ever made.

The Da Vinci Code - Official Site
The second trailer is up, but it is just giving me Java errors when I try and see it. Maybe it will be fixed later today. ... Nope, still giving me errors. However, I don't know if its the site or my computer that's causing the problem.

The Devil and Daniel Johnston - Official Site
All the usual features are here, but the site doesn't have a very polished feel, not that that's a terrible thing consider the subject of the film.

F*ck - Official Site
First of all, as you can probable tell from the name of the film, this movie deals with a certain four letter word, one that is generally considered not safe for work. You have been warned. As for the site itself, it has all the information one would expect from a documentary with a heck of a lot more style than most have.

Flicka - Official Site
Just the image gallery and trailer so far.

Flight 93 - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and it is suitably solemn. Most of the usual features are on the site, but its heart is a timeline of the events of 9/11 and two behind-the-scenes video clips.

Hoot - Official Site
Another flash site that launched this week. This one has all the usual features and extras like the game, information on the Burrowing Owls, etc. However, it still looks very sparse.

Ice Age: The Meltdown - Official Site
No updates in a while and that means the clips and the last game are still marked coming soon.

Kinky Boots - Official Site
Just the synopsis and trailer so far with not much promise of anything extra. The trailer should be enough to sell the film for a lot of people, but a more glamorous site wouldn't have hurt.

Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School - Official Site
Not was added since the site was first on the list.

Mission: Impossible: 3 - Official Site
New intro and another behind-the-scenes featurette.

Nacho Libre - Official Site
Two more confessionals were added this week including one where Jack Black gets his chest waxed. It's not as intense as when Steve Carell did it for The 40-Year Old Virgin, but this was done just to remove Jack Black's chest hair, not to cause him pain for the entertainment value.

Over the Hedge - Official Site
The flash site launched this week and it is huge, sort of. Right now most of the content is marked coming soon, but what is there already is more than 80% of the sites out there. Character bios, image gallery, three trailers, games, and even a food hunt to encourage fully exploring the site. On the downside, the site feels very sluggish at the moment, but hopefully that won't last too long. Nevermind, it's not the site, it's my computer. There's enough animation and lots of audio clips from the movie to keep things interesting and even with the vast majority of features marked coming soon it is the winner of the overgrown Weekly Website Award.

Phat Girlz - Official Site
Good site with all the usual features plus some sound and animation. There's enough here to sell the film well, but not enough to be an award-winning site. I also like the background song, but it kept skipping on me. But like I said earlier, I'm having some computer issues.

Poseidon - Official Site
The site's been completely redesigned, but there's no change in the content. Strangely, the site still looks like a placeholder site to me. Maybe that will change as the nine cruises are added.

R.V. - Official Site
It's a pretty busy week for new flash sites, and this is one of them. This is a pretty standard site with all the regular features and three simple games. It's not bad, but it feels like there should be more.

The Sentinel - Official Site
Just the trailer and image gallery so far.

Slither - Official Site
Four clips were added to the site with three more under the 18 and older section, and yes, they are not for kids.

The Transformers - Official Site
The movie doesn't open for more than a year, but there's already plenty of information on the site. However, most of the content is about getting the Fanboys excited rather than selling the movie to the general public. That's fine for now, as long as the studio knows to switch gears when the release date approaches.
