Awards Season: WGA Nominations are Written in Stone

The WGA announced their nominations this week, which include eleven awards, three of which are for theatrical releases.

Notes and Reactions...

  • Not a lot of surprises here, as many of the nominees here previous earned major nominations.
  • There were a couple of snubs, including Up and Inglourious Basterds, while the inclusion of The Hangover is also a bit of a surprise. Granted, it is a great movie, but it is not the kind that normally wins major awards.
  • This time around the Documentary category had more conventional picks, including The Cove, which is likely now the favorite to win, if by a small margin, as it is the highest profile film to previously pick up major nominations.
  • Food, Inc. was the only surprise omission in the documentary category.
