Yo Gabba Gabba!: Birthday Boogie - Buy from Amazon

Yo Gabba Gabba! started in 2006 with a couple of pilot episodes and aired regularly starting in 2007. With a mix of live action and animation, kids were instantly hooked, while the number of guest stars and musical acts made the show intriguing to parents (and the occasional drunk college student). It is only nominally plot-driven and most of the episodes are recurring bits, like The Super Music Friends Show, or Biz's Beat of the Day, not to mention shorter segments with kids dancing or being animated in retro video games. The latest DVD release, Birthday Boogie, has four episodes, starting with...

  1. Birthday
It's Brobee's birthday, but he's sad because he thinks everyone has forgotten it. But they haven't forgotten, in fact, they are preparing a surprise birthday party complete with a special cake and a new dance taught to them by Melora Hardin. This episode has the best music of the four on this DVD.
  2. Dress Up
DJ Lance and the gang in Gabbaland show you how much fun it is to dress up. After putting on some silly hats, they play cowboys and then have an adventure with a dragon and a princess.
  3. Talent
DJ Lance is putting on a Talent show in Gabbaland and everyone is trying to figure out what they can do. However, Brobee's upset because he can't think of any talents he has. Apparently DJ Lance's talent is flying. That's a pretty awesome talent.
  4. Ride
The gang spend this episode riding different things and singing about them. This includes going on a bike ride with friends, riding a surfboard in the ocean, and of course having an ice cream after riding around on a hot summer day.
There are no extras on the DVD. Nor are there subtitles or proper chapter placement, but at least there is a play-all button.

The Verdict

Yo Gabba Gabba!: Birthday Boogie is a bare bones release, but that's common for this show, and if you kid(s) liked the previous DVD, then this one is also worth picking up.
