Nickelodeon Favorites: Food With Friends - Buy from Amazon

This week Nickelodeon is releasing another collection of shows from the past few years, this time around the theme is food with the apt name, Food With Friends. So what shows are included? Are are there any extras to add value to the DVD? And is it worth picking up?

The Show

  1. Dora the Explorer: El Dia de las Madres
"El Dia de las Madres" is Spanish for Mother's Day and Dora is helping her father in the kitchen. They are trying to make a cake, but they don't have the right ingredients. They need ten bananas, six nuts, and one big piece of chocolate. What kind of cake needs ten bananas? And only six nuts? At least there are counting lessons, even if its useless as a cooking class.
  2. Go, Diego, Go!: Green Iguana Helps Abuelito Plant a New Strawberry Farm
Alicia, Abuelito, and the Bobos are growing strawberries for the festival, but a strong wind comes along and blows all the strawberries away. Now Diego has to bring strawberry seeds, and quickly or they won't be a Strawberry Festival. Fortunately he has help from a Green Iguana who will store the seeds in its stomach for the long journey. That's more than a little weird.
  3. Wonder Pets!: Save the Bee / Save the Squirrel
In the first story, the Wonder Pets have to help a bee make honey, but it doesn't know how. Fortunately, they are experts on the subject (as the play they put on proves) but before they can help the bee, they have to shrink down to the size of one.
In the second story, they have to save a baby squirrel stuck at the top of a Ferris Wheel at Coney Island.
  4. Blue’s Clues: The Grow Show
After Steve notices Blue has grown, they play Blue's clues to figure out what Blue wants to do. The first two clues are dirt and a watering can. He wants to play in the mud.
  5. Yo Gabba Gabba!: Eat
We learn about food and eating, starting with a party in Brobee's tummy. If my food cheered every time I tried to eat it, it would be a lot easier to stick to my diet. They also learn about brushing your teeth, how to dance with Elijah Wood, and more.
  6. Ni Hao, Kai-Lan: Happy Chinese New Year
It's Chinese New Year and that's Kai-Lan's favorite holiday. And this year it will will be the best New Year, because her friends are big enough to carry the Dragon costume. But before they can do that, they have to prepare the special food, hang lanterns, and decorate with flowers.

The Extras

There are two songs from Team Umizoomi that are also about food.

The Verdict

Nickelodeon Favorites: Food With Friends as a better price-per-minute than most, but all but one of the episodes is a double-dip. (I think the episode of Blue's Clues is the lone exception.) If your kids already have lots of DVDs from these shows, double-check to see how many would be new to you before buying. If it's more than half, it's worth picking up.
