Synopsis

Chet Baker, whose tumultuous life is thrillingly reimagined with wit, verve, and style to burn. In the 1950s, Baker was one of the most famous trumpeters in the world, renowned as both a pioneer of the West Coast jazz scene and an icon of cool. By the 1960s, he was all but washed up, his career and personal life in shambles due to years of heroin addiction.

Home Market Releases for July 26th, 2016

July 27th, 2016

Sing Street

It’s a rather shallow week on the home market with the biggest release being Batman: The Killing Joke, which is a hot mess. More on that below. As for the best new release of the week, there are a handful of releases that were contenders for Pick of the Week, including Barbershop: The Next Cut, Deadline U.S.A., and Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXXVI. In the end, I picked Sing Street on Blu-ray for that title. More...

Born to be Blue was the best new limited release earning an average of $15,395 in three theaters. Weekend Estimates: Batman v Superman hits March record $170 milion

March 27th, 2016

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman and Superman not only had to fight each other this weekend, but also mediocre reviews. They have come through in some style, however, posting a record for March of $170.1 million, according to Warner Bros.’ Sunday morning estimate. Our model has the film coming a little below that mark, at $165 million or so, which might mean it won’t quite top Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II’s $169 million, which is currently the studio’s best ever weekend. But the fact that we’re comparing the movie to the Harry Potter franchise is nothing but good news for them. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Feeling Blue

March 25th, 2016

Born to Be Blue

It is a relatively good week for limited releases with a few films earning stunning reviews. This includes Born to be Blue, which I think has the best shot at mainstream success. April and the Extraordinary World and Mia madre also have a chance at doing well in limited release. More...
