Synopsis

A myth in his own lifetime, Carlos is a central figure in the history of international terrorism in the 1970s and 1980s, from pro-Palestinian activism to the Japanese Red Army. He was at once both a figure of the extreme left and an opportunistic mercenary in the pay of powerful Middle Eastern secret services. He formed his own organization, based it behind the Iron Curtain and was active during the final years of the Cold War. This film is the story of a revolutionary internationalist, both manipulator and manipulated, carried along by the currents of contemporary history and his own folly. We follow him to the end of his road, relegated to Sudan where the Islamic dictatorship, after having protected him, handed him over to French authorities. A contradictory character, as violent as the times he embodies, Carlos is also an enigma. That is what we set out to resolve, at least partially. The film CARLOS has been made based on historical and ournalistic documentary research. That said, the life of Carlos includes significant uncharted periods, and thus is the subject of controversy. This film is then, above all, a dramatization etracing two decades in the life of one of the most notorious international terrorists of our time.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for September 27th, 2011

September 27th, 2011

It's another incredibly busy week on the home market with over 400 new releases on Amazon.com. However, again there were only a few that were worth mentioning with a whole lot of filler. The biggest release of the week is Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray, but it doesn't come out till Friday. Looking at some of the other top selling releases and it's clear how weak the selection is. There's a stand-up comedy DVD, a couple catalog titles being released on Blu-ray, Anime, a couple TV on DVD releases, and the first DVD release of Adventure Time. Adventure Time on DVD? Pick of the Week. More...

Nothing Comes Before Hereafter on the Per Theater Chart

October 19th, 2010

Clint Eastwood's latest film, Hereafter, topped the per theater chart over the weekend with an impressive average of $36,720 in six theaters. It expands wide on Friday, so this fast start was important. The overall box office leader, Jackass 3D, was well back in second place with an average of $16,343, but that's amazing for this type of movie and this time of year. Vision managed $11,406 in its lone theater, while Carlos opened with an average of $10,003 in two theaters, which is literally one ticket away from missing the $10,000 mark. More...

Limited Releases have Conviction

October 15th, 2010

It looks like we are getting closer and closer to Awards Season with two Oscar potential films coming out this week. At least there are two films that look like they were made to win Oscars. I'm not sure either has what it takes. Other limited releases include two films opening in several hundred theaters, both of which could struggle. There should be at least a couple to find some measure of mainstream success, but I'm unwilling to bet which films those will be. More...
