Synopsis
In 1921 Jimmy Gralton's sin was to build a dance hall on a rural crossroads in an Ireland on the brink of Civil War. The Pearse-Connolly Hall was a place where young people could come to learn, to argue, to dream...but above all to dance and have fun. As the hall grew in popularity its socialist and free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and politicians who forced Jimmy to flee and the hall to close.

It's an off week of sorts. The biggest release is extended edition of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. In fact, there are five versions of this film that are near the top of the list. There are not a lot of other first-run releases on this week's list, which means we have to look to the classics for potential Pick of the Week contenders. Fortunately, there are plenty of those worth picking up. Leading the way is The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki on Blu-ray. It is expensive, but you get a lot for your money. There is another top-notch release this week, Rush - R40 Live on DVD or Blu-ray, which wins the coveted Puck of the Week for best Canadian release.

Only one film was in the $10,000 club this week. Amy earned an average of $37,083 in six theaters. That's amazing for a documentary, but this genre rarely expands truly wide. Let's see what happens next weekend and maybe I will be proven wrong.

There are a few limited releases on this week's list that are earning overwhelming positive reviews, but they are all documentaries. Documentaries rarely have breakout success, but Amy is the one with the best shot. Jimmy's Hall is the best of the rest and while I don't think it will expand wide, it should be the biggest hit on this week's list.
