Synopsis

In 2003, 30 years after they served together in the Vietnam War, former Navy Corps medic Richard “Doc” Shepherd re-unites with Former Marines Sal and Richard Mueller on a different type of mission: to bury Doc’s son, a young Marine killed in the Iraq War. Doc decides to forgo a burial at Arlington Cemetery and, with the help of his old buddies, takes the casket on a bittersweet trip up the East Coast to his home in suburban New Hampshire. Along the way, Doc, Sal and Mueller reminisce and come to terms with shared memories of the war that continues to shape their lives.

Home Market Releases for January 30th, 2018

January 31st, 2018

Professor Marston & The Wonder Women

This is one of the worse times of year for the home market. Until we start getting the holiday blockbusters landing on DVD / Blu-ray, there’s not much to talk about. That’s not to say there are no good releases, as God’s Own Country, The Square, and Steven Universe: Season One are all easily worth picking up. There are just no big releases. For example, the Pick of the Week goes to Professor Marston & The Wonder Women on Blu-ray, which was sadly ignored by moviegoers when it first hit theaters. More...

Home Market Releases for January 16th, 2018

January 15th, 2018

I, Daniel Blake

It’s not a particularly good week on the home market with no one film that is a must have dominating the rest of the pack. However, this is actually a good thing, as there are several smaller releases that get a chance to shine and there are several Pick of the Week contenders as a result. This includes the biggest release of the week, Blade Runner 2049, as well as a limited release, Loving Vincent, and a forgotten film, Matinee. In the end, I went with I, Daniel Blake: The Criterion Collection as the best of the week. More...

Theater Averages: Lady Bird is the Picture of Health earning $91,109

November 8th, 2017

Lady Bird

A yearly record was broken this past weekend, as Lady Bird had the best theater average of the year so far with an average of $91,109 in four theaters. This tops the previous yearly record of $84,315 by The Big Sick. It wasn’t the only monster hit on the theater average chart this week. Thor: Ragnarok earned an average of $30,085 in just over 4,000 theaters. There were also two other films that just managed to earn a spot in the $10,000 club, 1945 and Last Flag Flying, which earned averages of $10,317 in two theaters and $10,140 in four theaters respectively.

Weekend Estimates: Thor Ragna-roks the Box Office

November 5th, 2017

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok continues a remarkable record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe this weekend by posting a $121 million opening weekend, according to Disney’s Sunday morning estimate. That’s a significant increase from the $85.7 million of Thor: Dark World, and means that each sub-franchise based on an individual character has had increasing open box office from film to film: Iron Man’s openings went from $102 million, to $128 million, to $174 million; Captain America went $65 million, $95 million, $179 million; and now Thor has gone $65 million, $86 million, and $121 million. Limited and VOD Releases: Will Princess Cyd be Visited by Lady Luck?

November 3rd, 2017

Princess Cyd

A few films on this week’s list were earning some pre-release buzz. Sadly, LBJ and Last Flag Flying missed expectations with critics, so they could struggle at the box office. On the other hand, Lady Bird is earning 100% positive reviews, while Princess Cyd’s reviews are not that far behind, so perhaps they will succeed where the others fail. More...
