DVD Charts - Number One for 23

August 5th, 2007

There was a close race on the DVD Sales Chart this week, with The Number 23 topping Zodiac 387,000 units to 352,000 units sold. Premonition fell to third place with 190,000 units sold and 791,000 in total. The Hills Have Eyes 2 placed third with 134,000 units sold for the week and 536,000 in total. Rounding out the top five was Shooter with 109,000 units sold for the week and 1.90 million after a month of release. More...

Contest - Don't Rush

August 3rd, 2007

What will likely be the last major hit of summer opens next week and Rush Hour 3 is the target film of our latest box office prediction contest. To win one must simply predict the box office opening for Rush Hour 3. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Crime Story, which comes out on DVD on Tuesday. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Nomad on DVD. In addition, both winners will take home a copy of 24x24 Wide Open with Jeff Gordon. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD Releases for July 24, 2007

July 23rd, 2007

It's the busiest week in a long time and not only do we have more than three dozen films on this week's list (and six spotlight reviews), but we have plenty of releases worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week. Hard Boiled - 2-Disc Collector's Edition, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - Volume 3, The Host - 2-Disc Special Edition... and those are just the ones beginning with the letter H. All three of those deserve to be added to your DVD collections, as well as a few others, but I'm trying to limit the DVD Pick of the Week to one selection and that's The Host - 2-Disc Special Edition. Namesake Goes for Hat Trick

March 20th, 2007

Namesake was the top film on the Per Theater Chart for the second weekend in a row with an average of $17,440 in its 41 theaters. Second place went to the only newcomer in the $10,000 club, Hat Trick with $15,500 in its lone theater. The only other film to crack $10,000 was the overall box office leader, 300, which just managed that feat with $10,054. More...

Fetching Limited Releases

March 16th, 2007

A big list of limited releases this weekend, not so much in the number of films but in the number of theaters. Five of the seven films on this week's list have opening theater counts in the double-digits with a couple opening in more than six dozen. This means that even with little overlap in target audiences, at least one will be squeezed out at the box office. On the other hand, Fido has Canada pretty much to itself when it comes to limited releases. I've seen more ads for that movie up here than I have for Premonition. More...
