Home Market Releases for May 10th, 2016

May 9th, 2016

Deadpool

It is officially the summer blockbuster season, which is historically the worst time of year for the home market. We are usually flooded with duds from January and February. However, this year we have the biggest hit of the year so far, Deadpool, which is coming out on DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and 4K. Unless your eyesight is better than 20/20, 4k is not worth the upgrade, but the Blu-ray is the Pick of the Week. It isn't the only contender for that title. Mustang (DVD or Blu-ray) and The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (Blu-ray) are also must haves. More...

Theater Averages: I Knew Her does Relatively Well with $9,312

February 9th, 2016

I Knew Her Well

No films earned more than $10,000 on the theater average chart. I Knew Her Well came the closest with $9,312 in its lone theater. Kung Fu Panda 3 landed in second place with just $5,328, which shows you how bad the weekend was. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Regression and Regret

February 5th, 2016

Regression

It is a bad week for limited releases. Not only are there not a lot of films on this week's list, but most of them are earning reviews that suggest they will struggle in limited release. The biggest film, Regression, is also the worst film, while Rams is at the opposite end when it comes to reviews and theater count. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Nothing to Freak Out About

October 30th, 2015

Freaks of Nature

It is a short week for limited releases with nothing that looks particularly promising at the box office. Freaks of Nature might get a boost from Halloween, but I seriously doubt it. On the other hand, The Armor Of Light, Flowers, and The Wonders all are earning great reviews and have a shot at doing well in art house theaters. None of them will expand wide enough to earn a significant measure of mainstream success. It is likely none of them will crack $10,000 on the per theater average. More...
