DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 10th, 2012

April 10th, 2012

It is a really slow week on the home market. The biggest theatrical release coming out is The Iron Lady. The film did extremely well for a limited release, but that's not saying a whole lot. The only other wide release is The Darkest Hour, but that film bombed quite badly, so it likely won't have much of an impact on the home market. As for the best of the best, A Trip to the Moon Blu-ray is at the top of the list and is the Pick of the Week. There are a couple runner-ups, namely Astonishing X-Men: Dangerous on DVD and Into the Abyss on Blu-ray More...

Featured DVD Review: Miramax: High-Powered Action!

April 9th, 2012

Last year, Dead Man and Texas Rangers were released on a Blu-ray Double-Shot while last week Equilibrium and Renaissance were also released on a Blu-ray Double-Shot. This week, all four films are coming out on a two-disc DVD. So are these four films worth picking up? Or are there too many misses and not enough hits? More...

Featured Blu-ray Review: Equilibrium / Renaissance

April 3rd, 2012

This week, Equilibrium and Renaissance are coming out on a Double-Shot Blu-ray. Or were they destined to struggle? More...

DVD Releases for July 24, 2007

July 23rd, 2007

It's the busiest week in a long time and not only do we have more than three dozen films on this week's list (and six spotlight reviews), but we have plenty of releases worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week. Hard Boiled - 2-Disc Collector's Edition, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law - Volume 3, The Host - 2-Disc Special Edition... and those are just the ones beginning with the letter H. All three of those deserve to be added to your DVD collections, as well as a few others, but I'm trying to limit the DVD Pick of the Week to one selection and that's The Host - 2-Disc Special Edition. Sound as Science

September 26th, 2006

The Science of Sleep started its theatrical run atop the per theatre charts with nearly $350,000 in 14 theatres for an average of $24,852. The studio hopes to expand the film into 200 theatres this weekend but it is too soon to tell if the film will be able to attract an audience outside the art house circuit. Second place went to American Hardcore as the documentary took in $18,102 in its lone theatre. Next up were a pair of holdovers with Old Joy earning $17,556 in one theatre, which is more than it made during its entire, nearly month-long release. Finally, Keeping Mum fell just 25.67% to just over $20,000 in 2 theatres for an average of $10,077. More...
