DVD Releases for July 8, 2008

July 7th, 2008

Another week without a first-run release that deserves serious consideration for the DVD Pick of the Week award. This means we are left looking at special editions, limited releases, and TV on DVD sets for the best of the week. Sadly there are not a lot of contenders here either. Batman Begins on Blu-ray Standard Edition or Limited Edition is certainly worth picking up, but it is mostly just a port of the HD DVD release and I was hoping for more (like having the extras in High Definition). The Monk / Psych two-pack offers two great shows for a reasonable price, but I'm not sure it's award-worthy. The best this week has to offer is Stargate Atlantis - Season Four - Buy from Amazon, and it is this week's DVD Pick of the Week. More...

Juno Finds Treasure on the Per Theater Chart

December 27th, 2007

Only two films crossed the $10,000 mark this past weekend, and they were at the opposite ends of the spectrum. National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets topped the list earning an average of $11,687 in 3,832 theaters while earning first place on the overall box office charts as well. On the other hand, it was a limited release, Juno, that scored the only other $10,000 run with an average of $11,230 in just over 300 theaters. More...

December 21st, 2007

Another slow week for limited releases. Not only are there only four films on this week's list, but none of them are earning overall positive reviews, in fact, two of them were not even screened for critics. Thing do heat up next week with a Christmas day / Friday releases as studios try to get the last word for the Oscar race. More...
