DVD Releases for July 29, 2008 - Part I

July 29th, 2008

Another slow week without a single first run release that was a must have, or even a contender for DVD Pick of the Week. Granted, many will find Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay worth picking up, but it is not a top-notch release. There are also a couple of special edition releases that are easily worth picking up: Dark City - Director's Cut - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray and WarGames - 25th Anniversary Edition. But the best of the best, and the DVD Pick of the Week is Stargate - Continuum - Buy from Amazon: DVD or Blu-ray. But I am also giving an honorable mention to Two Fat Ladies - Buy from Amazon. On a side note, it is another week where we had to split the list into two due to the size. Part II can be found here. More...

Sexy Start on the Per Theater Chart

June 3rd, 2008

The overall box office leader, Sex and the City, was also the leader on the Per Theater Chart with $17,305. Second place went to Savage Grace, which earned an average of $11,156 in two theaters. Last week's winner, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, snagged third place this weekend with and average of $10,496. On the other hand, War, Inc. just missed the $10,000 by the tiniest of tiny margins at $9,985. More...

Chapter is Not Unforeseen on the Per Theater Chart

April 2nd, 2008

There were just two films to reach the $10,000 plateau this week, Chapter 27 and The Unforeseen. The former topped the latter, but it was close at $13,910 to $12,877. More...

Per Theater Average Victory is no Walk in the Park

March 11th, 2008

Paranoid Park opened in first place on the per theater chart with an average of $14,914. The only other film to cross $10,000 was the overall box office leader, 10,000 B.C., with an average of $10,518. More...

Per Theater Averages - Two Out of 3D Ain't Bad

February 12th, 2008

Three films earned per theater averages better than $10,000 this weekend. Two of those were the same 3D concert releases that topped the charts last week. However, the number one film this week was In Bruges with a very healthy average of $16,330 in 28 theaters. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour did suffer a sophomore slump, but earned an average of $14,987, which is more than enough to keep theater owners happy. Finally, U2 3D was up more than 3% to $12,094, which bodes very well for the film's upcoming expansion. More...
