DVD and Blu-ray Releases for August 2nd, 2011

August 2nd, 2011

It's not a particularly strong week on the home market with only two first-run releases of note. Coincidentally, I'm waiting on screeners for both Rio and Soul Surfer. While both are likely worth checking out at the least, the latter's Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack is the best bet for Pick of the Week. Normally I'd like to wait till the screener arrives before handing out that honor, but there is a pretty big gap between first and second place this time around. More...

Iron Rockets to the Top of the Per Theater Chart

May 12th, 2010

The overall box office leader, Iron Man 2, was also the leader on the Per Theater Chart with an impressive average of $29,252. That is below expectations, but still excellent. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Mother and Child, which opened with $10,760. More...

Final Starts Out in First Place on Per Theater Chart

April 20th, 2010

The City of Your Final Destination rode its pedigree to first place with $24,401 in its one theater, while Exit Through the Gift Shop was very close behind with an average of $21,345 in eight theaters. The Secret in Their Eyes opened in third place with an average of $16,787 in ten theaters. Of these three films, Exit earned the best reviews. However, the Oscar winning Secret could have the best long-term success. More...

Jonesing for Limited Releases

April 16th, 2010

While there are only five limited releases on this week's list, two of them are opening in more than 100 theaters. However, both of those films are only earning mixed reviews. The best-reviewed limited release of the week is Exit Through the Gift Shop, which currently has 100% positive reviews. Hopefully that will translate into a strong start at the box office. More...
