Synopsis

Real-life sweethearts Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi star in a fictionalized version of their romance in this indie semi-documentary comedy, written by Yi. Playing themselves, Yi and Cera embark on a scripted version of their own story. In the movie, Yi has agreed to be the subject of a documentary about her quest to discover if love really exists, since she's never experienced it. As part of her participation in the project, she has a film crew follow her around throughout every new development in her love life— which gets complicated when she starts dating fellow comedian Cera.

DVD Releases for December 1st, 2009

November 30th, 2009

It's the week after Black Friday, which is widely reported as the busiest shopping day of the year, so it comes as no surprise that there are fewer releases this time around than there have been in recent weeks (including just a trio of spotlight reviews). After all, it makes sense to release a DVD / Blu-ray before Black Friday rather than after. That said, we are still in the heart of holiday shopping season, which means there are a couple of $100 million hits on this week's list, as well as some titles that are of interest. Unfortunately, when it comes to most of the really interesting releases, I'm still waiting for the screener to arrive, so I can't tell if they are DVD Pick of the Week material. The best of this week's releases that I can give a more detailed review for is Mystery Science Theater 3000 - XVI - Limited Edition Box Set. More...

Contest - Everybody (Hearts) Prizes

November 27th, 2009

We're looking at a slow week for wide releases, with Everybody's Fine probably the widest release of the week in just 2,200 theaters. It will definitely be the target film in this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Everybody's Fine. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Paper Heart on DVD. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of Paper Heart on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

No One to Carry the Per Theater Chart

September 9th, 2009

Not a single film reached the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart this weekend. In fact, there weren't even any films that came close. The best movie overall was The September Issue with an average of just $7,303, which was one fifth of its opening per theater average. Granted it did triple its theater count this past weekend, so a decline in its per theater average was expected, but it also saw its overall box office fall by a third. The best new release of the week was All About Steve, which was only halfway there at $4,994. More...
