For the fifth week in a row, American Sniper led the way on the per theater chart, this week earning an average of $17,444. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Still Alice with an average of $10,816 in 38 theaters.

There were a lot of new limited releases and a couple of them even did well. Black Sea earned an average of $7,535 in five theaters while Red Army earned an average of $6,700 in three theaters. The Duke of Burgundy struggled with an average of $3,967 in three theaters. Mommy only managed an average of $2,672 in ten theaters. That's not a good start, but it did perform a lot better in its native Canada. Miss Hill: Making Dance Matter earned $2,560 in its lone theater, while Salvation Army earned $2,433, also in one theater.

There were more limited releases this week, but all missed the Mendoza Line. Cake came the closest with an average of $1,901 in 482 theaters. Americons was well back with an average of $1,029 in 14 theaters. Song One bombed with an average of $748 in 27 theaters, while R100 was right behind with an average of $726 in ten theaters. Big Muddy was well back with an average of just $74 in two theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • A Most Violent Year reached $1 million over the weekend and will have no trouble getting to $2 million.
  • As expected, Spare Parts topped $2 million over the weekend; however, it did so with a bigger than expected sophomore stint, so it now should have no trouble getting to $3 million, while $4 million is not out of reach.
  • Birdman has benefited from its Awards Season success getting all the way to $30 million over the weekend, while $40 million is a solid goal, especially if it continues to win awards.
  • Another week, another major milestone for The Imitation Game. This time the film managed to surpass $60 million over the weekend putting it ahead of Son of God and just behind God's Not Dead, as of the end of business on Sunday.
