The only film to top $10,000 on this week's per theater chart was Ride Along, which earned an average of $15,590. This is an amazing result for a January release. In fact, it would have been amazing for a limited release.

There were many other new limited releases this past weekend, some of which did very well. Like Father, Like Son earned an average of $8,250 in two theaters. American Mustang was right behind with $7,906 in one theater, while Generation War earned $7,386, also in one theater. On the other, Big Bad Wolves bombed with an average of $1,057 in six theaters. The final new limited release was Life of a King, which was even worse with an average of $269 in sixteen theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Inside Llewyn Davis hit $10 million very early in the weekend and it has a shot at $15 million.
  • Her just got to $15 million over the weekend, which is probably at least close to what the film cost to make. It won't end up a hit in theaters, but it should do well enough on the home market to break even.
  • August: Osage County also reached $15 million over the weekend and in fact got to $20 million on Tuesday.
  • The Book Thief surpassed $20 million over the weekend, which is an amazing total for a limited release.
  • 12 Years a Slave was aided by its Oscar nominations and that helped it cross $40 million over the weekend. It is now ahead of A Haunted House and just behind Riddick for 2013.
