Per Theater Chart: Iron Man Ices the Competition

May 7, 2013

Iron Man 3 dominated the Per Theater Chart earning an average of $40,946 at over 4,000 screens. Two Millenium Films releases were next with The Iceman and What Maisie Knew earning averages of $21,987 and $21,480 respectively. Free the Mind opened with $12,215 in its lone theater.

There were many more new limited releases, including Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's, which just missed the $10,000 earning an average of $9,908 in four theaters. Love Is All You Need was right behind with an average of $9,187, also in four theaters. Dead Man's Burden opened with $7,620 in one theater. Post Tenebras Lux's opening was only $4,674 in one theater, but it earned $7,096 from Wednesday through Sunday. Meanwhile, Something in the Air earned an average of $4,429 in three theaters. 5 de Mayo, La Batalla opened in 20 theaters, which is a lot for a limited release, which explains why its per theater average was only $4,179. The Happy House opened below the Mendoza Line with just $1,756 in one theater. Kiss of the Damned was playing in two theaters over the weekend but only managed an average of $1,362.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Renoir hit $1 million over the weekend and it has a decent shot at $2 million.
  • Disconnect also reached $1 million over the weekend, while its chances at $2 million are even better.
  • The Company You Keep surpassed $3 million over the weekend and by this time next week, it should be at $4 million.
  • Mud got all the way to $5 million over the weekend and I would be surprised if it didn't get to $10 million before its run is over.
