Per Theater Chart: Blue Cheers Up the Box Office

August 1, 2013

Blue Jasmine earned top spot on the per theater chart, not just for the week, but for the year. Its per theater average was $102,011 in six theaters, topping the previous yearly best by Spring Breakers. Spring-Breakers finished its theatrical run with just over $14 million, which is a figure Blue Jasmine should top. The Act of Killing remained potent in second place with an average of $13,890 in three theaters. The overall box office leader, The Wolverine, was the final film in the $10,000 club with an average of $13,536.

There were almost no other new limited releases where numbers were announced. Drug War did okay with $5,926 in one theater. On the other hand, The To Do List struggled with an average of $2,672. Granted, it was playing in nearly 600 theaters, which is a lot for a limited release.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Girl Most Likely topped $1 million before the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Attack reached $1 million over the weekend, but odds are it won't last long enough to get to $2 million.
  • The To Do List earned more than $1 million during its first weekend of release. It should have no trouble hitting a couple more milestones, but it won't last in theaters very long.
  • Twenty Feet From Stardom got to $3 million over the weekend, which is faster than expected. It should get to $4 million and $5 million is still a viable goal.
  • Fruitvale Station earned more than $4 million over the weekend reaching past $5 million in total. It will get to $10 million by this time next weekend and getting past $15 million is well within reach.
