IMAX: Third Quarter Report

October 30th, 2013

IMAX announced their third quarter earnings report and the numbers look good, for the most part. Total box office for the quarter was $132.5 million, which is down significantly from 2012's total of 173.2 million. However, year-to-date, 2013 has pulled in $482 million, which is still a 3% increase from this point last year. This mirrors the overall box office, with year-to-date numbers showing better growth than the overall market. IMAX continues to sign contracts expanding market penetration both domestically and worldwide with a total of 785 theaters. This includes 158 new theaters this year, which is already more than the 142 total signings for 2012.

Up next for IMAX is Ender's Game, while Thor: The Dark World and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, should bring in big bucks on IMAX.
