Per Theater Chart was far from Dreamy

April 21, 2009

There was only one film to reach the $10,000 club this past weekend, as In a Dream earned $11,465 in one theater. On the other hand, the re-release of Leon Morin, Priest came close with $9,515.

There were plenty of other new releases, including some that did very well, and others that struggled. On the high side was Every Little Step with an average of $8,563 in 8 theaters. Is Anybody There? was reasonably close behind with $7,702 in 6 while Lemon Tree averaged $7,301 in 3. On the other hand, American Violet opened in too many theaters and it managed $240,000 in 61 theaters for an average of $3,986, which does not suggest the potential to expand. Sleep Dealer just missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,947, while The Golden Boys was relegated to triple digits with $918.

There was only one major milestone on the chart during the past weekend, as Sin Nombre reached $1 million. It might reach $2 million, but it might take a while.
