International Top of the Chart - Transformers Near $200 Million Mark

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen expanded into 57 more markets earning one of the biggest weekends on the international scene. The film pulled in $165.43 million on 9763 screens in 59 for a two-week total of $189.58 million internationally, while it now has $389.65 million worldwide. This is the fourth biggest weekend haul on the international scene ever, behind Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but ahead of The Da Vinci Code.

It opened in first place in every single new market, led by China where it opened with a massive, massive $21.9 million on 1000 screens, which is a record for an English-language film. It also topped $10 million in South Korea with $11.12 million on 1207 screens over the weekend for a total of $15.50 million. Australia managed $10.95 million on just 457 screens over the weekend for a total of $13.07 million. Russia earned $11.84 million on 913 screens over the weekend.

Germany was also extremely strong where it made $8.71 million on 673 screens. Mexico was right behind with $8.22 million on 472 screens and France earned an estimated $7.5 million on 665 screens. It broke records in Taiwan with $6.1 million on a mere 62 screens. In Italy, the film earned $4.48 million on 578 screens while Spain brought in $4.26 million on 598 screens. Brazil made $2.98 million on 334 screens.

As for as holdovers go, Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen remained in first place in the U.K. down 48% to $7.22 million on 521 screens for a total of $27.25 million. In Japan it was down 42% to $3.39 million on 658 screens over the weekend for a total of $12.72 million.

The film's nearest competitor was The Hangover, which earned less over the weekend than Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen earned in some single markets. But we will get to that, and the rest of the multi-million dollar movies, over the weekend.
