Making Noise on the Per Theater Chart

August 18, 2009

It Might Get Loud led the way on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $13,240 in seven theaters, which suggests some potential for expansion. District 9 was relatively close behind with an average of $12,251.

The only other new releases to come close to the $10,000 mark was Kaminey with an average of $8,864 in more than 80 theaters. It should reach $1 million by this time next week, but it might not reach $2 million despite its fast start. Grace was well back with an average of $3,087 in two theaters while Earth Days earned $2,408 in one. Mein Fuhrer: The Truly Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler earned $1,197 in one theater for a per letter-in-its-title average of under $27. Finally we get to Spread, the vanity project with Ashton Kutcher. It bombed with an average of just $1,194, but it was playing in more than 100 theaters, so that's a mitigating factor.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • In the Loop made it to $1 million just before the weekend, and it has a shot at $2 million.
  • The Hurt Locker has now made it all the way to $10 million during its limited release run, but that is as far as it will go.
  • (500) Days of Summer hit $15 million early in the weekend, and while it has peaked at the box office, it will have no trouble getting to $20 million while $25 million is within its reach.
