Rachel Gets Hitched to Per Theater Chart

October 7, 2008

It was a light week for limited releases, but we had one of the best results of the year on the per theater chart with Rachel Getting Married earning an amazing $32,597.

The rest of the new releases were not as potent. At least Ballast did respectable business earning $8,572 over the weekend and $12,165 from Wednesday to Sunday, all in just one theater, but this is nothing compared to this week's winner. Despite opening in just 502 theaters, Religulous placed in the top ten with an average of $6,792. Allah Made Me Funny and Drona finished very close on the chart with averages of $2,776 and $2,641 respectively, but I don't think anyone will be impressed by their openings.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • It took more than four months, but The Children of Huang Shi finally reached $1 million theatrically.
  • On the other hand, it took The Duchess just three weeks to reach $1 million.
  • Transsiberian topped $2 million over the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Appaloosa's expansion went better than expected as it hit $5 million over the weekend. It should make it all the way to $10 million by this time next weekend, while $20 million in total is within reach.
