Poor Selection for Limited Releases

January 6th, 2006

Like last week, there are only two films are opening in limited release this week. However, this time both of them are opening in just one theatre and very unlikely to find a mainstream audience.

Fateless - Reviews
A Hungarian Jewish boy is captured by the Nazis and sent to a series of concentration camps. This is the most expensive Hungarian movie of all time at $12 million and if the reviews are any indication, it deserves to earn it all back. Also of note, the film is Hungary's official entry in the Oscar race for Best Foreign Language film, and has a decent shot at grabbing a nomination. Fateless opens tonight at the Film Forum in New York City.

Kill the Poor - Reviews
A man takes his new wife to live in his old neighborhood only to discover things have changed since his childhood. Filmed in 2003, the film is finally getting a theatrical release, but the reviews have been less than impressive. Kill the Poor opens tonight at the IFC Center in New York City.
