Movie Website Updates for March 10 - March 16

March 16, 2006

Pretty average week with all best sites being previous award winners. The best of the rest was Silent Hill - Official Site, and even though this week's update wasn't huge, it was enough to make the overall site award-worthy.

American Gun - Official Site
The site is up, but the trailer is marked coming soon and there's only a cast list with no bios. Hopefully when it opens next week there will be more added.

Basic Instinct 2 - Official Site
A couple more features were added to the site, which really helped the overall feel. However, the more I see of this movie, the less I want to watch it.

The Benchwarmers - Official Site
Another game was added to the site since it was last on this list, but it wasn't very well done. All you do to play the game is hit the space bar a bunch of times and even if your timing is perfect, it still takes way too long to play the game.

Cars - Official Site
Mater was added to the showroom.

Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks - Official Site
This week's clip is simply called Tony, which refers to the first A.D.

Don't Come Knocking - Official Site
No changes since the trailer first appeared on the site.

Eye of the Dolphin - Official Site
Just the synopsis, cast & crew list, and image gallery so far. Since the film doesn't have a set release date yet, there's plenty of time to add more content.

Find Me Guilty - Official Site
Nothing has changed since the flash site first went live.

Fragile - Official Site
All the usual features are here, synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery and trailer, but there are no extras. Maybe as the North American release date nears there will be a separate site for this market.

Happy Feet - Official Site
Another clip was added to the site as was the synopsis. I don't have high hopes for this movie for a couple of reasons, the main one being the tap-dancing theme. Seeing someone tap-dance in real life is impressive since it takes a lot of skill to do so. Making a CG penguin tap-dance doesn't take nearly as much skill, so it's much less impressive to watch.

Hard Candy - Official Site
The section simply called Experience was added to the site. Also added this week was a MySpace profile, which given the subject matter of the movie, makes a lot of sense.

The Inside Man - Official Site
The flash site may or may not be up. It says enter site, but when I click on it nothing happens. I'll check back later to see if the problem was fixed. ... Nope, so far the link is still broken.

Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector - Official Site
All the features marked coming soon were added and that includes the usual features plus extras like a soundboard. There are also a few clips over on the Lionsgate site, you can find them here, here, and here.

Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School - Official Site
Just the synopsis and the trailer so far, but with two weeks till the movie opens there's not even a hint that anything else will be added.

Poseidon - Official Site
The full trailer is on the site, but I think it was a mistake to show that much of the big effects shot.

See No Evil - Official Site
The first floor of the hotel was added. It attempts to be interactive, but it's too linear without any branching to be considered truly interactive.

She's the Man - Official Site
The final feature marked coming soon was added to the site, My Universe, which helps connect all of the characters in the movie. Also, there's a new secondary site called She's the Site, which is a look at Viola's dorm room. On this site you can find character bios, image gallery, games and more. Had the site not won the Weekly Website Award last week, this would have definitely put it over the top, even though I didn't get that autographed picture that I mentioned last week.

Silent Hill - Official Site
A newspaper was added to the site in .pdf format. It adds quite a bit of background information, which will hopefully not be needed to enjoy the movie. Looking at the site as a whole, there's a lot here including the usual information, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer). Most of the extras on the site are less about content then they are about setting the mood including several 'hidden' video clips that are semi-interactive. The site sets the mood better than 90% of the rest while still giving the surfer all the usual content and it is that combination that helps the site win the macabre Weekly Website Award.

Slither - Official Site
Another big update with week with the cast & crew bios added as well as the special feature, "Slug It Out." That latter addition allows you to make and view custom TV spots. Lastly Greetings from Wheelsey is now under the downloads section, but it still marked coming soon.

Southland Tales - Official Site
There's a lot to look at on this site so far, but almost nothing that would make you think it was advertising a movie. I'm intrigued to say the least, but I'm holding off making even a preliminary judgement till I see more.

Stay Alive - Official Site
Some footage from the game was added to the site.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Official Site
There was a redesign for the placeholder site this week, but still no content. This isn't surprising since the film doesn't open for more than a year.

Thank You for Smoking - Official Site
Most of the site deals with the large cast with other regular features like synopsis and trailer on the site. Also, there are several video clips on the site.

V For Vendetta - Official Site
Huge site with tons to look at, read, watch. So much so that it would take longer to fully explore the site than it would to watch the movie.

Yesterday Was a Lie - Official Site
The Chase Masterson interview was added to the site this weekend.

The Zodiac - Official Site
Most of the regular features are here, but there's not enough in the way of style to make the site stand out against a crowded field.
