Theater Counts: Fockers Still the Biggest Draw, But Stripes in the Race

January 14, 2005

Meet the Fockers continues as the most widely distributed movie this weekend, adding 25 theaters to reach a healthy 3,553 locations. In spite of big expansions for In Good Company (to 1,565 theaters) and House of Flying Daggers (to 1,190), two movies have significant openings.

Kid comedy Racing Stripes opens in a solid 3,185 theaters - 367 more than Kangaroo Jack on its opening weekend 2 years ago. Actioner Elektra debuts in an even more solid 3,204 theaters - just a tick below the wide opening enjoyed by Daredevil in 2003.

Coach Carter, meanwhile, debuts in a more modest 2,524 theaters, and will have a challenge ahead of it to break into the top 5.
