Theater Counts: Chicken Little Gets Noticed

November 3rd, 2005

Disney's release their first homegrown digital animation this weekend. After a nine year partnership with Pixar that delivered six huge hits, Disney have set their sights a little lower for Chicken Little, but have still been heavily promoting the movie, and will be looking for a comfortable win at the box office this weekend. Its 3,654 theaters makes it the widest opening since The Dukes of Hazzard, and it'll be looking for a similar opening weekend -- around $30 million.

This week's other wide release is Jarhead, which debuts in 2,410 theaters. Recent history suggests that won't be enough to generate substantial box office, but going up against a big family movie is probably good counter-programming.
