Tokyo Gold

January 16, 2004

Just two movies are opening in limited release this weekend, at least according to Exhibitor Relations. And while both are garnering excellent reviews, neither is destined to bust out at the box office.

Crimson Gold - Reviews: Banned in its home country of Iran, this film is receiving excellent reviews but is too dark to get much mainstream success. IT should be an indie favorite and place well on the Per Theatre Average.

Tokyo Godfathers - Reviews: The latest in a long line of Anime. While this genre is very popular in Asia, it has yet to break out here. Not even an Oscar for Spirited Away could help it crossover from the niche market. So this film probably won't have a shot, no matter how deserving.
