Movie Websites Launches for Aril 16 - April 22

April 23, 2004

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week, Van Helsing - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.

13 going on 30
Current Content: The film opens this week and the site had an interesting way of dealing with the sections still marked coming soon. They got rid of them. So there's been nothing new added to the site since last week.

The Agronomist
Current Content: This site has most of the regular features, synopsis, trailer, etc. Also on the site is extra information on Haiti but the highlight of the site is the background music. Four full songs and 5 audio clips from the movie and intertwined as the background music. Certainly a step above most sites.

America's Heart and Soul
Current Content: Simple site with just the synopsis, trailer and poster (marked coming soon.)

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
Current Content: Typical Sony placeholder site just the synopsis and the trailer.

Around the World in 80 Days
Current Content: This time both updates were added to the site. The Paris section talks about trains in general and the Orient Express in specific with a character quiz as the interactive feature. The section on Turkey has no information, just a create your own picture.

Clifford's Really Big Movie
Current Content: Wasn't this film already released? Pretty simple site with the synopsis, a few clips, (including the trailer) and some posters.

Close Your Eyes
Current Content: This film has been a long time coming, the site first opened back when the film was called hypnotic. Not much has changed since then.

Delgo
Current Content: The last of the cast bios was added to the site. Freddie Prinze Jr. joins the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Anne Bancroft.

Envy
Current Content: The main content of the site was added in two parts, one for Dingman and one for Vanderpark. Each one has different cast bios and image gallery, but the testimonials and the production notes are the same.

I, Robot
Current Content: A featurette featuring director Alex Proyas was added to the site.

Laws of Attraction
Current Content: Information on the soundtrack was added, as were two clips.

Love Me If You Dare
Current Content: The main site launched this week and while it has the basics there's not a lot to make it stand out.

Man on Fire
Current Content: At first I thought this was just the placeholder site. But with only a day before the movie opens it looks like this is it.

Mean Girls
Current Content: With a week to go the rest of the content marked coming soon was added. Most of these last features are very video clip heavy.

New York Minute
Current Content: Mary-Kate's diary was added to the site.

Off the Lip
Current Content: Basic site without sound or animation. Good content with all the basics covered as well as plenty of links to other surfing sites.

Raising Helen
Current Content: The flash site launched and a lot of the content is still marked coming soon. It has all the usual features, synopsis, trailer, cast and crew (bios marked coming soon), etc. There is a small amount of animation between segments, as well as audio clips, but unfortunately to background music. The section on the soundtrack is marked coming soon, so that might be added later. Also marked coming soon are the production notes, e-cards and games.

Sacred Planet
Current Content: The rest of the content was added to the site just in time for Earth Day and the films openings. Of the new content the most impressive is the several video clips of interviews with the crew.

Sleepover
Current Content: The movie doesn't open for another month and a half, so there's no big surprise that flash site doesn't have a whole lot of content. Just some regular features like synopsis, trailer, cast and crew (no bios) and some extras like character bios and a message board that includes a video message from Alexa Vega. There are a few sound bites and some animation as well, but nothing spectacular for now.

Soul Plane
Current Content: Another flash site that launched this week, this one is kind of lacking in regular features. And the extras are not very intriguing either.

The Terminal
Current Content: Just the placeholder site with the trailer.

Van Helsing
Current Content: A huge update this week with most of the missing content added. Bios and production notes were added, as were the storyboards and other extras. Extras like the information on Van Helsing's arsenal of weapons, some of his past deeds. The best extra in my mind is in the Library under the map of Transylvania. Each part of the map has its own IPix or 360 degree image. And there's still plenty of section left to be added in future updates. The remaining content marked coming soon is the section called Legacy and the last three items under the multimedia section. Even without these sections, this is an excellent site. Good sound effects, strong animation, excellent content. It has been a long time coming but this site finally wins the frightful Weekly Website Awards.
