The Boss Baby

Wide releases again dominated the theater average chart taking two of the top three spots. This includes The Boss Baby, which led the way with $13,305. The only limited release in the $10,000 club was David Lynch: The Art Life with $10,823 in its lone theater. Last week’s champ, Beauty and the Beast, was right behind with an average of $10,789.

The rest of the new limited releases had a wide range of results. The Death of Louis XIV earned $8,002 in its lone theater, while Cézanne and I was right behind with an average of $7,872 in two theaters. The Devotion of Suspect X was playing in 43 theaters earning an average of $7,516. The Zookeeper’s Wife was playing over 500 theaters and earned an average of $6,079. The Prison struggled with an average of $3,495 in 23 theaters. Carrie Pilby only managed an average of $2,324 in six theaters, but it entered the home market today. Likewise, The Blackcoat’s Daughter was already playing on Video on Demand, which explains why it earned an average of $477 in 26 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Last Word hit $1 million early last week and it has a shot at $2 million, but it is also already losing theaters quickly.
  • T2: Trainspotting topped $1 million over the weekend; however, its per theater average is low enough that it likely won’t expand too much further.
  • Kedi got to $2 million over the weekend, which is excellent for a documentary.
  • The Zookeeper’s Wife opened with $3 million, so with good legs, it could top $10 million during its theatrical run.
