Theater Averages: Ingrid Westward Trip nets $45,100

Ingrid Goes West

Ingrid Goes West opened in first place on the theater average chart with an average of $45,100 in three theaters. This is the third best average of the year behind The Big Sick (average of $84,315 in five) and The Beguiled ($57,323 in four). A24 had another success with Good Time earning an average of $31,275 in four theaters. The Trip to Spain opened with an average of $15,102 in three theaters, which is in the middle of the franchise average so far. Finally there’s Wind River, which was the only holdover in the $10,000 club. It managed an average of $13,615 in 45 theaters and already has nearly $1 million in limited release.

The only other new limited release that came close to the $10,000 club was A Taxi Driver with an average of $8,094 in 41 theaters. Once Upon a Time was next with an average of $4,901 in 51 theaters. The Nile Hilton Incident was close behind with an average of $4,592 in two theaters. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was the widest limited release of the weekend playing in 177 theaters earning an average of $4,008. The Only Living Boy in New York struggled with an average of $3,631 in 15 theaters. The Farthest was right behind with an average of $3,450 in two theaters, which is okay for a documentary. Fellow documentary, Machines, was next with $2,838 in its lone theater over the weekend, while it earned $4,530 from Wednesday through Sunday. Whose Streets missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,825 in 24 theaters. After Love only managed $810 in one theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • An Inconvenient Sequel topped $2 million over the weekend, but it will start losing theaters soon.
  • Detroit got to $10 million before the weekend and is already more than halfway to $15 million.
  • The Big Sick got all the way to $35 million early in the weekend and have about a 50/50 chance of getting to $40 million before the end of its run. By comparison, it is already ahead of Everything, Everything and it is closing in on Valerian and King Arthur.
