December 20, 2017

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi earned $20.3 million on Tuesday to push its running tally to $261.9 million after just five days of release. It remains in eighth place on the 2017 chart, but it will top Despicable Me 3 for seventh place sometime today (possibly by the time you read this, in fact). Compared to Monday, the film was down 6%, which is a slightly better than the 7% drop The Force Awakens had during this point in its run. On a side note, Rogue One also fell at this point in its run, but by a mere 0.07%.

By way of broader comparison, The Last Jedi had the ninth-best Tuesday in history, and became the second-fastest film to $250 million at the domestic box office yesterday.

Last Jedi held on better internationally, where it was down 1.4% to $21.8 million for the day. This lifts its international total to $274.8 million and its worldwide total to $536.7 million. The U.K. remained the film’s biggest international market with $46.0 million, including $4.3 million on Tuesday. Other markets where it has crossed $10 million are Germany ($27.6 million); France ($21.6 million); Australia ($19.8 million); and Japan ($18.3 million). The film is now the 15th-biggest worldwide hit of the 2017, and it is quickly climbing that chart.
