Bullet Train

After a solid opening at the box office, Bullet Train is once again the widest release heading into its second week. The film’s freshman effort yielded just over $30 million in its first three days and currently clocks in with a six-day total of $38.9 million. The Brad Pitt action-thriller clings to its opening theater count of 4,357 locations and it is poised to spend another week at the top of the box office charts. While no contenders are expected to knock Bullet Train off of its tracks, a slew of new moderate to wide releases hit cinemas this week as Mack & Rita, Laal Singh Chaddha, Fall, and Emily the Criminal debut, while Bodies Bodies Bodies expands nationwide.

As mentioned, making its appearance this week is the Scott Mann directed survival thriller Fall. Opening in 1,548 locations, the film follows Becky and Hunter, two thrill-seeking best friends who, after climbing a remote radio tower, find themselves stranded with no way down. Arriving in a projected 1,900 theaters to kick off its theatrical run is the Diane Keaton and Elizabeth Lail comedy Mack & Rita. The plot follows a 30-year old woman (Lail) who wakes up as her 70-year old self (Keaton) after a bachelorette party. Debuting in six locations last week, Bodies Bodies Bodies charted $226,653 in its opening weekend and currently enjoys a six-day total of $308,105. The film will make its nationwide expansion this week in approximately 1,200 theaters.

Alongside Bullet Train, the remaining top five widest releases this week are DC League of Super-Pets, dropping from 4,332 locations last week, to 3,803 cinemas this week; Top Gun: Maverick, coming in with 3,181 this week after getting a boost from IMAX and premium cinema locations; last week’s newcomer Easter Sunday, adding one theater in its second week for 3,176 locations; and finally, Thor: Love and Thunder, coming in with 3,175 theaters.

A profusion of limited release films make their way into theaters this week. Paramount Pictures is releasing the Hindi drama Laal Singh Chaddha in 516 locations starting Thursday, August 11. Also opening in limited release this week is the Aubrey Plaza crime drama, Emily the Criminal. Showing in 473 theaters, the movie follows Emily (Plaza) as a woman saddled with debt, who gets involved in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles.
