Contest: There Can Be Only One

February 4th, 2011

Next weekend there are two massive releases opening, and while Just Go With It will likely be the bigger hit in the end, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, will be a lot more front-loaded, and I believe it has a slight advantage over the weekend. Regardless of whether I'm right or not, it is the target film for this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), regardless if they go over or not, will win a copy of Highlander One & Two on Blu-ray Two-Pack. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 2nd, 2010

Of course, that release is Toy Story 3, and the 4-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack, which is not only the Pick of the Week, it might be the Pick of the Year. More...

Featured Blu-ray Review: Highlander and Highlander 2

The Highlander franchise started in 1986 with a small film called Highlander. That film cost $16 million to make, but only brought in $13 million worldwide. However, it achieved a cult following on the home market, becoming so popular that five years later a sequel was made, The Quickening, and then another, and another, not to mention two TV shows, a comic book, and RPG, and more. The first two films are coming out on Blu-ray this week, so how well do they live up nearly 25 and 20 years later? And is either Blu-ray worth picking up or upgrading to? More...

The shaded area represents the expected performance range for a film, based on its opening weekend box office. 95% of films fall within the shaded area. If a film trends towards the top end of the shaded area, it has good legs compared to the average film; if it trends towards the bottom end of the shaded area, it has poor legs. The predictive area is based on movies from the past 5 years.
