DVD Releases for October 25, 2005

October 24th, 2005

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here are the new and classice movies, and a few from the TV on DVD section. This week the selection is quite strong with several first run releases, but again the best of the best come from the TV on DVD category. Looney Tunes - Golden Collection - Volume Three is easily the best release of the week and should be in everyone's collection. Kids in the Hall - Complete Season 3 is also a must have, while another Canadian show, Puppets Who Kill - Complete 2nd Season, gets an honorable mention. More...

The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming!

October 9th, 2005

Company 9 opened in its native market of Russia with a stunning $5.0 million over the weekend and $6.25 million including the midweek numbers, which is better than Revenge of the Sith's opening in that market. This also means there were two films that did so well in their local markets that they managed to place in the top five overall. More...

International Round-up: Red Eye Takes Off

October 2nd, 2005

Red Eye added another $3.7 million on 2,057 screens in 37 markets to its $22 million international total. The film opened in second place in both Spain with $850,000 on 215 screens and in the Netherlands with $250,000 on 59 ($300,000 including previews). More...

Mafia Sequel Squeezes into Top Five Again

September 25th, 2005

Marrying the Mafia 2 again led its native market of South Korean with $4.81 million over the weekend and $12.78 million during its two-week run. And like last week, this was enough for the film to secure a place in the top five overall just beating out Pride and Prejudice. More...

Winning by a Beak

July 12th, 2005

For the third weekend in a row March of the Penguins was the top draw on the Per Theater Charts with over $1 million on just 64 screens for an average of $15,927. Its per theater average fell a mere 23% on the post-holiday weekend despite more than tripling its theater count, which bodes very well for the film's long term success. Coming in a very close second was the overall box office champ, Fantastic Four with $15,564. More...

Penguins March On

July 6th, 2005

Despite a blockbuster opening by the competition, March of the Penguins was able to repeat on top of the Per Theater Charts with an average of $20,601. Coming in second was said blockbuster, War of the Worlds, which earned an average of $16,602 in just shy of 4,000 theaters. The final film in the $10,000 club was The Beat My Heart Skipped. The French film earned $65,000 in just five theaters for a $13,073 average. More...

Marching to Victory

June 28th, 2005

March of the Penguins got off to an astounding start over the weekend earning $137,492 in just 4 theatres for a very impressive $34,373 per theatre average. Coming is second was Me You and Everyone We Know with $15,413 in 5 theatres, while debuting during the opening of the IFC Center obviously helped, this performance shows that the films itself earned much of its success so far. More...

May 5th, 2005

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates. Slow week with most of the sites being merely average or too early in their development to tell if the film is an award winning site or not. So in the end I decided not to hand out the award to any site. Hopefully next week things will pick up. More...
