Synopsis
ADAMS ACHT tells the true story of a sporting sensation: At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, the so-called "Rowing Professor," Karl Adam, and his eight-oared crew surprisingly won the gold medal for Germany—doing so as absolute underdogs. Just four years earlier, such a miracle would have seemed unthinkable. The tranquil town of Ratzeburg, situated directly on the border with the GDR, played virtually no role in German rowing. The sport itself was considered elitist and remained firmly in the grip of conservative officials. Adam’s rowing team grappled not only with physical limits but also with the ideological divisions of the post-war era—with lingering questions of guilt and with new borders cast in the shadow of the Cold War.
